The First Dance HistoryThe "First Dance" performed by the bride and groom is an American and European tradition. Historically, the most common dance performed is the Waltz but in todays culture dances like the foxtrot, merengue, and swing are done as well. The first dance was not just for weddings but were for special occasions and celebrations in the days of old. The guest on honor at these events would do the first dance and when finished, this would open the dance floor to all the quests. This tradition is alive and well today at wedding celebrations and at some more traditional celebrations as well.
